Few animated shows have said goodbye as often as *Futurama*. It debuted in 1999, was canceled by Fox, came back, was canceled again by Comedy Central in 2013, and returned once more when Hulu revived it in 2023. Every farewell has turned out to be temporary.
That history made the Season 14 finale feel like an inside joke. The season wrapped on September 28 with an episode called “Final Ending: The Last Conclusion,” a title that pokes fun at how often the series has come back. Viewers were left wondering whether this was really the end.
Now there’s a bonus. Hulu has released a brand-new post-credits scene for the finale, shared with fans during the New York Comic Con 2026 weekend. The 1 minute, 13 second teaser opens on a bright beam of blue and white light cutting through darkness, and it comes with a playful question: do you wonder what happens next? Hulu has kept the details tight, so the clip’s meaning is up for interpretation. All episodes of the season are streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The finale itself is about closure. It goes back to Fry’s childhood, when he and his brother Yancy snuck into a PG-13 movie and never got to see how it ended. Fry spends the episode chasing that missing ending, and the story eventually gives it to him. Even so, the episode stops short of declaring the series over. The Planet Express crew survives, and the door stays open, which suits a show that has been revived so many times.
Season 14 premiered on August 3 with two episodes, then added a new one every Monday through the finale. It runs ten episodes and counts as the show’s 14th season overall and the fourth of the Hulu era. Reviewers called it consistent and gag-dense, with “Our Flag Means Medical Coverage” singled out as a peak. One critic said the season doesn’t reinvent the formula but doesn’t need to, praised the voice cast, and said the finale lands by poking fun at television’s obsession with series finales. For longtime fans, it has been a comfortable homecoming.

Don’t expect a traditional Season 15. According to TVLine’s report on the season’s end, Hulu has no plans to order one. Instead, it has ordered three supersized specials, each about 66 minutes long. The first is a Christmas installment bringing back Robot Santa, planned for 2027 with no date announced yet. Creator Matt Groening has been vague about the other two. He told Variety that the show has been on the air since 1999 and that the characters’ overall story arc has more to it, which has fans hoping the specials will answer some open questions.
There’s also a treat for fans of Groening’s wider universe. The hardcover comic collection *Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis* arrives on December 2. The two shows previously crossed over in the 2014 episode “Simpsorama” and in earlier comics.
Taken together, the specials and the comic suggest the franchise isn’t going anywhere. The post-credits scene is a reminder that *Futurama* rarely stays gone for long. With the news lately being as heavy as it has been, a cartoon spaceship crew joking about its own finale is exactly the kind of comic relief we could use.
