A kitten is recovering after being rescued from a storm drain near Port Jefferson Station on Long Island, New York. Local residents were alerted to the animal’s presence by its cries for help echoing from inside the drain.
Rescuers faced a significant obstacle in the form of a 5,000-pound concrete slab covering the opening. To reach the trapped animal, the team utilized heavy-duty equipment, including large jacks and a hydraulic rescue tool commonly known as the Jaws of Life.
Following the successful extraction, the kitten was taken to Jefferson Animal Hospital. Staff members have named him Lawrence and are currently overseeing his recovery.
